"I composed all the instrumental of this track alone in front of my subscribers during a YouTube live. I wanted to give it an oriental vibe with the use of phrygian mode & byzantine scale, and thought it was a good idea to add gregorian chants. All of these elements gave Terry the idea of writing something about crusades, which is a really cliché topic in heavy metal, but hey, that's heavy metal.
But I also know that lyrics talking about going to war against people from another culture can be read as an insidious form of racism / far right propaganda. So I'll just say it: far right bands, and people who support far right bands in any form, even when it's "only for the music", can f*ck off and get out of my scene. I won't play any mind games, I won't hide those sh*tty political beliefs behind my band's lyrics.
I won't deny that every form of art has a political meaning though. However the political meaning of CT has always been to bring powerful, epic, 80s related, melodic and progressive heavy metal back under the spotlights, 'cause we think this is what art needs right now."
